Report: Hulu's U.S. Ad Revenues to Equal YouTube's Next Year

London - Hulu, the video site joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), is expected to generate as much advertising revenue as Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube in the U.S. next year, the Financial Times reported, citing Screen Digest analyst Arash Amel.

While exact ad revenue data is not disclosed for either site, Amel projects that YouTube will generate $100 million in the U.S. this year, compared with $70 million for Hulu.

In 2009, Amel forecasts that both sites will take in about $180 million in the U.S.

"YouTube is in a very tough place right now," Amel told FT.com.

"Most of that user-generated content is worthless or illegal. The next 18 months will determine whether or not it was just an expensive mistake for Google."
