San Mateo, Calif. - Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone is now the top mobile device worldwide, in terms of mobile ads served, according to a report from mobile ad marketplace AdMob.

Displacing the Motorola RAZR for the top spot, the iPhone now accounts for 37% of mobile ad requests coming from outside of the U.S.

In October, AdMob said it reached more than 4 million unique iPhones, or approximately 30% of the devices in the market.

In the U.S., the iPhone is still in second place behind the RAZR, while in the U.K. it is running third, behind the Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson K800i.

Overall, AdMob said that worldwide requests for mobile ads grew 13.8 in October over the prior month, to 5.8 billion. In the U.S., requests were up 7.9% to 2.2 billion.

The company says it serves more than 5 billion mobile banner and text ads per month.
