Novato, Calif. - Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC), the developer of digital media software such as Roxio and AuthorScript, announced on Wednesday that it has acquired CinemaNow, an online video-on-demand service offering over 6,000 movie, TV show and music video titles.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1999, Marina del Rey, Calif.-based CinemaNow received over $40 million in funding from backers including film studio Lionsgate, EchoStar, Transcosmos, Cisco and Menlo Ventures.

The company provides its video-on-demand service to partners including Dell, HP, Samsung, TiVo, DivX and Archos.

The companies had recently collaborated on a system that would combine CinemaNow's service with Sonic's Qflix DVD drives.

Moving forward, they will focus on increasing the placement of CinemaNow's storefront on PCs and consumer electronics devices, and expanding the adoption of the Qflix platform.
