Cambridge,
Mass. - Amid the rapid deceleration
of the economy, Akamai Technologies (NASD: AKAM), a provider of content delivery network services,
announced on Thursday that it will cut 7% of its workforce -- or 110 employees
-- as part of a restructuring plan.
The company said the move will cost about $4
million in restructuring charges.
"We have not changed our business
outlook," said JD Sherman, the CFO of Akamai. "However, we want to
ensure that we can keep investing for growth even in the current economic
climate."
