In-Game Commerce Firm PlaySpan Lands $16.8 Million

Santa Clara, Calif. - PlaySpan, a provider of digital micropayment services for online games and social media applications, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $16.8 million in its second round of funding.

Investors included Easton Capital Group, Menlo Ventures, Novel TMT Ventures and STIC.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based PlaySpan provides in-game e-commerce services for more than 200 online games, which reach a combined more than 100 million players worldwide.

The company's PayByCash unit supports over 70 payment methods in more than 180 countries, and distributes pre-paid Ultimate Game Cards in more than 20,000 North American retail locations.

PlaySpan will use the new funds to expand into Europe and Asia, and to grown its user base.
