McCartney: Beatles Digital Distribution Talks Have "Stalled"

London - Talks on making the Beatles' catalog available from digital retailers like iTunes (NASD: AAPL) have "stalled," Paul McCartney told the Associated Press on Monday. "The last word I got back was it's stalled at the whole moment, the whole process," the former Beatle told AP. "I really hope it will happen because I think it should."

The Beatles are the most notable remaining holdout on digital music distribution, given how lucrative their catalog remains to this day.

The band's holding company, Apple Corps, has had a rocky relationship with Apple, Inc., especially in the digital music sector -- where several lawsuits between them were resolved just last year.

"We have been working hard to secure agreement with Apple Corps. to make the Beatles' legendary recording catalog available to fans in digital form," a spokeswoman for EMI, the Beatles' record label, told AP.

"Unfortunately the various parties involved have been unable to reach agreement but we really hope everyone can make progress soon."

The Beatles' music will likely be first distributed digitally in a new music video game they are collaborating on with MTV, whose Harmonix unit develops the "Rock Band" franchise.
