Black Friday: Holiday Shoppers Flock To Walmart.com For Discount Retail Therapy

It's Black Friday, traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year. With the recession and ongoing crisis on the financial markets, many retailers have seen a sharp drop in sales and are hoping for a boost as Americans get out there and do some retail therapy. However, it seems like Black Friday will be a different kind of shopping day this year. Some people will still shell out thousands of dollars on flat-panel TVs, but research shows that more people then ever before are looking to do their holiday shopping online and at discount retailers. While Internet traffic to retail websites remains flat from 2007, more people then ever before are searching for Black Friday deals (see chart below). Last week Wal-Mart received the greatest share of referred traffic from the Black Friday websites, followed by Sears, and Circuit City, according to Hitwise.
