Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) said on Tuesday that its Xbox 360 console outsold rival Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 3 by 3-to-1 over the "Black Friday" weekend after the Thanksgiving holiday.

While the company did not break out specific sales figures, it said Xbox 360 saw an estimated 25% sales increase over Black Friday figures from 2007.

"Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft.
