Report: U.S. Digital Music Sales Growing; Not Supplanting CDs

New York - While digital music sales in the U.S. are expected to grow from 18% to account for 41% of overall music sales in five years, this will not compensate for a decline in overall sales, which will shrink over the next five years from $10.2 billion to $9.8 billion, according to a forecast from Forrester's JupiterResearch.

On average, digital music consumers have shifted on average 60% of their spending to digital, but 64% of subscribers to digital music services and 57% of those who download music still reported buying a CD in a store over the past year.

The report also predicts that 55% of U.S. online consumers will pay to download digital music in 2013.
