Stats LLC Acquires CNN "Hologram" Developer SportVU

Northbrook, Ill. - Stats LLC, a provider of sports-related information and data to media companies that is jointly owned by the Associated Press and News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), announced on Tuesday that it has acquired SportVU, an Israel-based developer of automated ID and motion capture technology.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2005, SportVU "utilizes a sophisticated technology to collect positioning data of the ball and participants (players and referees) within the playing field in real time. Complex algorithms are employed to analyze the accumulated data streams and compile meaningful information and insights with incredible precision," the company said.

SportVU also developed the "hologram" 3D simulations used by CNN during its Election Day coverage.
