Lenoir, N.C. - Google has elected not to accept a $4.7 million state grant to construct a data center in Lenoir, slowing its plans to expand in the state, according to published reports.

The company had been expected to get the grant in exchange for creating 210 jobs and investing $600 million over four years.

Google has built one data center in the state, where it employs about 50 people; it initially had been expected to hire about 100 employees there.

The company told state officials that it still plans eventually to meet its previously announced job creation and investment goals, according to a quote in the article from Google spokeswoman Deborah Barnes.
