New York - Apple (NASD: AAPL) plans to begin selling its iPhone at Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) stores as early as next week, Bloomberg reported, citing store employees at five locations in California.

The report did not say whether Wal-Mart will offer the iPhone for $99, as was rumored by the blog Boy Genius Report last week.

Employees in the mobile phone departments at five Wal-Mart stores told Bloomberg that they are being trained to sell two iPhone models.

A clerk in Stockton said additionally that they are expected to go on sale around Dec. 15, while two other representatives said Wal-Mart will have them available between Christmas and the New Year.

A clerk from the Vacaville, Calif. Wal-Mart told Bloomberg the 8GB and 16GB iPhones will go on sale Dec. 28 for $199 and $299, respectively.
