Reston, Va. - During an opening event on Tuesday, Google (NASD: GOOG) inaugurated a new office in the suburbs of Washington, DC that will focus on the federal government.

Vint Cerf, Google's "chief Internet evangelist" who is widely credited as the creator of the Internet, will co-manage the office with Mike Bradshaw, head of Google's government sales.

The 15,000-square-foot office, which has been used since August, currently has 30 full-time employees.

Bradshaw said Google's offerings, which are generally ad-supported and free to consumers, are increasingly being tweaked for government and business purposes.

Over 10 U.S. cabinet departments currently use Google's search functions on their public websites and intranets.

Bradshaw said Google is repackaging many offerings -- such as its mapping, search and collaboration technology -- to allow governments and businesses to customize their offerings.

In addition to the Reston, Va. office, Google also has a public affairs office in Washington, DC.
