Bebo Launches Big U.S. Push With "Social Inbox"

Dulles, Va. - Seven months after completing its $850 million acquisition of U.K.-based online social network Bebo, Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) AOL on Wednesday officially kicked off the site's U.S. push with the release of a "Social Inbox" that combines email, social networking and media recommendations in a single interface.

The new Bebo tool aggregates feeds and updates from services such as Twitter, Flickr, Del.icio.us, YouTube and AIM, among others.

It also allowing users to check their email from Gmail, Yahoo Mail and AOL Mail.

In addition, the more than 100 million users of AOL and its AIM instant messenger can now log directly into Bebo using their existing screen names.

"The current fragmented social networking environment makes keeping up-to-date with others increasingly difficult," said Joanna Shields, the president of AOL People Networks. "Bebo's new Social Inbox is our first step in solving this problem."

The release is the first in a series of expected announcements for Bebo, which currently stands as the No. 3 social network behind Facebook and MySpace.
