New York - Give Real, a New York-based startup founded by a pair of Princeton graduates, on Wednesday formally launched both its website and "Real Drinks" Facebook application, which allow people to buy real drinks for friends, family and colleagues anywhere in the country.

The year-old company, which had been in beta since September, lets users buy up to $99 in drink credits, which then can be redeemed by using any major credit card at over 500,000 bars and restaurants.

"We were looking for a way to share real drinks, not just icons, with our friends and family across the country and were disappointed that there was no existing way to do so," said Adam Ludwig, who co-founded the company with Patrick Ledbetter.

Give Real is backed by Battery Ventures, Hillcrest Management and angel investors including Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and Right Media co-founder Brian O'Kelley.
