Toronto - NetShelter Technology Media, an online publisher of over 150 technology content sites, announced on Monday that it has closed an $11.1 million first round of financing, from Rho Ventures, GrowthWorks Canadian Fund and JLA Ventures.

Founded in 1999, Toronto-based NetShelter said its sites average 17.7 million unique monthly visitors, and reach 9.3% of the total U.S. online audience.

The company, whose sites compete with those owned by CNET, IDG, Ziff Davis and CMP, said it has experienced 900% audience growth in the past two years.

NetShelter will use the funds to accelerate its Open Media model that helps brand marketers engage with consumer and business technology buyers worldwide.
