Los Angeles - Image Metrics, a provider of facial animation technology for the entertainment industry, announced on Tuesday that it has closed a $6.5 million second round of funding, led by Saffron Hill Ventures.

Los Angeles-based Image Metrics says its system, used by companies including Digital Domain, Rockstar Games and Sony Computer Entertainment, "rapidly re-creates facial performances without markers or makeup, achieving levels of realism and fidelity that are unparalleled in computer graphics."

The funds will be used for further product development, and to execute the company's plans for expansion with video game and film divisions.
