Hertfordshire, England - Apple (NASD: AAPL) has acquired a 3.6% stake in mobile graphics chip designer Imagination Technologies Group for about $5 million.

Apple had already been licensing Imagination's technology.

CNET speculated that the company's PowerVR cores will likely be used in future versions of the company's iPhone and iPod touch devices.
