New York - StockTwits, the operator of a website that organizes stock- and finance-related Twitter conversations, has raised $800,000 in its first round of venture capital, led by IA Capital Partners, Silicon Alley Insider reported.

StockTwits is an open, community-powered service for ideas about investments. Users can "eavesdrop" on traders and investors, or contribute to the conversation.

The service takes finance-related data -- using Twitter as the content production platform -- and structures it by stock, user, reputation, etc.
