New York - Herman Blackbook, a New York-based consulting firm, has announced the launch of its New Platforms Fund, which will provide small amounts of funding for developers of applications for platforms including Twitter, iPhone, Boxee and AppNexus.

The fund aims to "seed up to ten cutting edge ideas with both money and human capital to bring them from concept to alpha stage," and will provide investments ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 each.

Herman Blackbook said it will take minor equity stakes in the concepts in return for its investments.

"The fund will focus on innovation that has low barriers for mainstream adoption as we find that all too often, innovation is too far ahead of the adoption curve," said Darren Herman, principal of Herman Blackbook.
