Fleet, England - Mirics Semiconductor, a developer of chips that aim to bring "nomadic global broadcast reception to portable and PC platforms, announced on Monday that it has raised $7 million in third round of funding.

Previous backers Acacia Capital Partners, Intel Capital and Pond Venture Partners all participated in the round, which follows Mirics' $12 million second round announced in August 2007.

The U.K.-based company said the new funds will enable it to expand its commercial activities.

Last year, Mirics introduced its FlexiTV product line, which it claims is the first commercially available software-based solution for receiving global broadcast TV and radio on processor-based platforms like notebook computers and portable media players.
