New York - Major League Gaming, a professional video game league, announced on Thursday that it has received a $7.5 million follow-on investment from Oak Investment Partners.

Founded in 2002, New York-based Major League Gaming signs top gamers to compete on teams against one another in tournaments.

The company reported 1,337% annual growth in its online broadcast audience, and an average of 15,000 attendees at its live competitions last year, a 500% increase over 2007.

The league's sponsors include GameStop, Dr Pepper, HP, Panasonic and Xbox 360.

In November, rival Championship Gaming Series announced that it would shut down, while the Cyberathlete Professional League ceased tournament operations last May, and the World Series of Video Games folded in late 2007.
