Microsoft's Songsmith Generates Music to Back SingersAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on January 8, 2009 - 2:10pm.
Las Vegas - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) on Thursday announced the release of Songsmith, an application that can generate musical accompaniment to match whatever a person sings. The $29 application "automatically creates music to back up the singer's voice, using signal processing and artificial intelligence techniques developed at Microsoft Research to analyze each melody the singer records." Users can purchase additional musical styles to complement the 30 included with the program, as well as additional digital instrumental files to expand the size of their virtual orchestras.
