Lawmakers Seek Cigarette-Type Warning Labels on Games

Los Angeles - A new bill in the House sponsored by a pair of bipartisan lawmakers would affix cigarette-type warning labels to video games with a "Teen" rating or higher, GamePolitics reported, citing the San Bernardino Sun. Reps. Joe Baca (D-Calif.) and Frank Wolf (R-Va.) are co-sponsoring the Video Game Health Labeling Act of 2009, which would create a new rule within the Consumer Product Safety Commission adding a label reading "WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior" to certain titles.

"The video game industry has a responsibility to parents, families, and to consumers -- to inform them of the potentially damaging content that is often found in their products," said Rep. Baca.

"They have repeatedly failed to live up to this responsibility. Meanwhile research continues to show a proven link between playing violent games and increased aggression in young people."

The bill is due to be taken up by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Oh well

As far as I know, even cigarette warnings are ignored. Don't blame the game, blame the person playing the game.
