San Francisco - MixMatchMusic, the provider of an online music collaboration and fan engagement service, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Mix2r, a similar site geared towards the electronica genre.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Since launching in September, San Francisco-based MixMatchMusic has seen artists and fans upload more than 2,500 song "stems," or individual guitar, drums, keyboard or other tracks to its site, which can be mashed-up and used to create new songs and remixes.

Founded in 2005, Mix2r lets electronica artists upload complete songs, which other musicians and DJs can use to create derivative works.

"The combination creates one of the premier sites for internet-based music collaboration, discovery and fan engagement, and provides tools to help artists monetize their music," MixMatchMusic said.

MixMatchMusic is angel-backed, while Mix2r has been completely funded by its founders and taken no venture capital investments to date.
