San Francisco - Meez, an online community where members create 3D avatars and interact in a virtual world, announced on Wednesday that it has agreed to merge with Pulse Entertainment, a provider of avatar messaging services for mobile phones and the Web.

In conjunction with the transaction, financial terms of which were not disclosed, Meez said it has raised an undisclosed sum of new financing, from Anthem Venture Partners.

San Francisco-based Meez claims over 8 million registered users of its service, which offers a virtual item-based economy and premium subscriptions, and has attracted sponsors including Nike, Sony and Cover Girl.

Meez plans to integrate the Pulse messaging services into its portal to offer users Web and mobile messaging capabilities.

The company said that it named Pulse CEO Paul Anderson as president of Meez.
