Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) announced on Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year deal with Sonic Solutions (NASD: SNIC), and will supply branded consumer interfaces for Sonic's CinemaNow Internet-based movie delivery service. The companies said they are collaborating with a number of consumer electronics makers to expand the range of devices supporting the Blockbuster-branded, adaptive streaming and progressive download service, to include PCs, portable media players, Blu-ray Disc players, digital video recorders, set-top boxes, mobile phones and Web-connected televisions.

These devices will then be sold through Blockbuster retail stores, on Blockbuster.com and by other retailers.

"Blockbuster is a ubiquitous entertainment presence in the physical world," said Blockbuster chairman and CEO Jim Keyes.

"Through this alliance with Sonic, we plan to become a ubiquitous presence in the digital world as well. Our goal is to offer consumers the most digital content, the most accessibility, via the most devices, both in- and out of home."

CinemaNow was acquired several months ago by Sonic Solutions for $3 million.
