Los Angeles - Facebook is now drawing nearly twice the number of unique users worldwide as rival MySpace, counting 222 million in December compared with 125 million for the News Corp.-owned (NYSE: NWS) social network, TechCrunch reported, citing data from comScore. Facebook also counted nearly twice the number of page views, with 80 billion in December compared with MySpace's 43 billion.

TechCrunch noted that the two sites were about the same size just six months ago.

In a response posted by TechCrunch, MySpace noted that it is "laser focused on building a sustainable global business which we measure by profits and revenue -- not just eyeballs."

The company added that it "continues to dominate the U.S. market -- where the bulk of online advertising revenues reside -- both in terms of monetization and user engagement with more than 76 million unique users and a 40% spike in engagement year over year."
