Report: Global Internet Audience Surpasses One Billion

Reston, Va. - The global Internet audience for the first time surpassed 1 billion people in December, according to new figures released by comScore.

The Asia-Pacific region accounted for the highest share at 41%, followed by Europe (28%), North America (18%), Latin-America (7%) and the Middle East and Africa (5%).

"Surpassing one billion global users is a significant landmark in the history of the Internet," said Magid Abraham, the president and CEO of comScore.

"It is a monument to the increasingly unified global community in which we live."

In terms of nations, China had the largest online audience with 179.7 million users, followed by the U.S., with 163.3 million.
