Research Triangle Park, N.C. - Digitalsmiths, a provider of video indexing, analysis and publishing technology, announced on Monday that networking firm Cisco (NASD: CSCO) has invested an undisclosed sum in the company.

The investment follows on a $12 million, second round of financing announced by North Carolina-based Digitalsmiths in November.

The company's visual interpretation tools process each frame of video with proprietary algorithms including facial recognition, scene classification, and object recognition.

This data is then incorporated into publishing technology that matches consumers with the videos they are searching for, and similar content.

The company will use the new funds to accelerate product development.
