Los Angeles - Citing the economic downturn, trade publication publisher Reed Business has laid off some 30 employees from its Daily Variety, 411, Video Business and Trade Show Week.

The company said the cuts include corporate, editorial, sales and other personnel.

"The modest staff cuts will in no way compromise the editorial integrity of Variety or Daily Variety," said editor-in-chief Peter Bart, who acknowledged that several of those cut were reporters and copy editors, Variety reported.

"However, Neil and I deeply regret that any personnel had to be let go in these difficult times."

Deadline Hollywood Daily cited unnamed sources who said staff reductions are also planned at Reed-owned Publishers Weekly and Twice.
