Washington - The Entertainment Software Association, a trade group of U.S. video game developers and publishers, spent a record $4.2 million in 2008 on federal lobbying, Gamasutra reported, citing lobbyist disclosure data from the U.S. House Clerk.

The sum represents a 25.6% increase in spending on lobbyists over the prior year.

The firms hired by the ESA lobbied both houses of Congress, and other agencies like the U.S. Trade Representitive and State Dept. on issues including the regulation of games, ESRB ratings, piracy, broadband deployment and immigration issues.
