Obama Will Approve Digital TV Transition Delay

Washington - President Barack Obama will sign a bill that will postpone the digital TV transition by several months, from Feb. 17 to June 12, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said on Friday.

The Senate last week approved a transition delay bill that was defeated in the House through procedural wrangling.

The bill is slated to come for a vote in the House again later this week, where it is expected to pass by a simple majority.

The government's digital TV adapter coupon subsidy program ran out of its initial $1.34 billion allotment with several million requests still unfulfilled.

Nielsen also recently reported that over 6 million homes are unprepared for the transition, and would see their sets go dark on Feb. 17.
