San Francisco - SocialMedia Networks, the developer of an independent social media advertising network, said on Friday that it has raised $6 million in its second round of funding, co-led by IDG Ventures SF and previous investor Charles River Ventures.

"We are in a great position to now work on corporate partnerships and grow our sales team," said Seth Goldstein, the company's co-founder and CEO.

San Francisco-based SocialMedia's network delivers ads within more than 5,000 applications running on Facebook, Bebo, Hi5 and MySpace.

In most cases, a consumer interacts with an opt-in banner, where they answer a question or fill out a poll.

The results of their interactions are then delivered to their friends through a "word of mouth" ad.
