User-Generated Doritos Ad Most Popular in Super Bowl Poll

Los Angeles - A user-generated TV spot created as part of a contest by Doritos was the most popular ad in USA Today's 21st Annual Ad Meter poll, besting pricey, agency-created ads for Anheuser-Busch, which has won the past ten years in a row. The "Free Doritos" ad, featuring a crystal ball and vending machine, was created by brothers Dave and Joe Herbert, or "two nobodies from nowhere," as 32-year-old Dave told USA Today.

Their spot proved more popular than the 51 other commercials viewed by a panel of 288 volunteers assembled by USA Today, Consumer Opinion Services and Shugoll Research.

"We were hoping for this. This is going to be the best million dollars we've spent at Frito-Lay," Ann Mukherjee, group vice president at Frito-Lay, told USA Today, adding that the company will have an "ongoing relationship" with the Herbert brothers.
