New York - Trying to turn around an online advertising business hit hard by the global recession, AOL (NYSE: TWX) said on Tuesday that it has hired former Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) executive Greg Coleman to replace Lynda Clarizio as the president of Platform-A.

Coleman is the former executive vice president of global sales at Yahoo, and most recently served as the CEO of search and ad targeting start-up NetSeer.

In a memo to employees, obtained by the AllThingsD blog, AOL CEO Randy Falco praised Clarizio's work in consolidating seven companies to form the basis of Platform-A.

"Now, we have the opportunity to build on this foundation and expand premium branded display sales across our extensive and fast-growing MediaGlow programming network," wrote Falco.

"And Greg, who has 25 years of media sales and publishing experience, is ideally suited to lead this effort."
