San Jose, Calif. - Meg Whitman, the former president and CEO of eBay (NASD: EBAY), on Monday took the initial steps in her possible run for governor of California.

Whitman announced the formation of an exploratory committee to seek the Republican nomination in 2010, vying to replace current governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is in his final term.

Former governor Pete Wilson will serve as her campaign chairman.

"California faces challenges unlike any other time in its history -- a weak and faltering economy, massive job losses, and an exploding state budget deficit," said Whitman.

"California is better than this, and I refuse to stand by and watch it fail." Whitman, 52, retired from eBay in March 2008 following a decade with the company.

Under her leadership, eBay's workforce grew from 30 to more than 15,000.

Hold the Greed Please

And what will another Republican have to offer but more Social Darwinism? The problem with Right-wing ideology is that at its core lies the idea that it's morally acceptable to let poor people starve to death. This has always been the fundamental principle. Well, thanks, but no thanks. If you're not for the People, do society a favor and stay home.
