Report: Apple to Introduce $99 Entry-Level iPhoneAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on February 11, 2009 - 10:03am.
San Francisco
- Apple (NASD: AAPL) is expected to introduce a $99 iPhone this summer, in addition to an
upgraded iPhone 3G model, according to a report from RBC Capital Markets
analyst Mike Abramsky, CNET News.com reported.
The entry-level, $99 model would purportedly feature 8GB of memory; a less-than-2-megapixel camera that lacks video support; EDGE 2.5G network; and a "light" data plan estimated to run $15 per month. Abramsky noted in his report that at $99, Apple would have to sell three iPhones to generate the same profits from the sale of a single iPhone 3G. Apple was previously rumored to begin selling a $99 iPhone at Walmart around the holidays.
