Qtrax Signs Warner to Ad-Supported Music Download ServiceAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on February 12, 2009 - 12:35pm.
Los Angeles
- Qtrax, an ad-supported, peer-to-peer-based music download service, announced
on Thursday that it has signed a deal with Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG), the last of the
four major labels to license its catalog for inclusion on the site.
A year ago, the company misfired on its initial launch, announcing deals with major labels that had not yet been finalized, but has since firmed up agreements with all four. "We had a somewhat embarrassing launch," Qtrax CEO Allan Klepfisz told the Associated Press. "Now, we clearly do want to make a lot of noise." The company said about 300,000 users have been using a beta version of the Qtrax service.
