Report: U.S. Video Viewing Continues Rise on TV, Web & MobileAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on February 23, 2009 - 10:05am.
New York - Americans now watch more than 151 hours of TV a
month -- an all-time high -- while those who watch video online consume another
3 hours of video per month, and those who use mobile video watch nearly 4 additional
hours per month on mobile phones and other devices, according to a report from
Nielsen.
Time-shifted viewing, on digital video recorders and similar services, stands at just over 7 hours per month overall, while for young adults 18-24, online and DVR viewing both represent 5 hours of monthly video time. "Viewers appear to be choosing the best screen available for their video consumption, weighing a variety of factors, including convenience, quality and access," said Nielsen vice chair Susan Whiting. "It is clear that TV remains the main vehicle for viewing video, although online and mobile platforms are an increasingly important complement to live home-based television." The study also noted that men continue to watch video on mobile phones more than women, and women continue to watch video on the Internet and television more than men.
