London - Online retail giant Amazon (NASD: AMZN) is the most preferred vendor for digital music, video and video game downloads in the U.K., beating out Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iTunes Store, MSN and eBay in a consumer survey conducted by market research firm Strategy Analytics.

The survey of 515 U.K. broadband users found that they preferred Amazon over Apple for downloading music (26% to 23%), video (16% to 11%) and games (16% to 5%).

"Amazon is still some distance behind Apple's iTunes when it comes to actual market share, but our survey results suggest that Amazon's dominance and brand strength in traditional online retailing put it in a strong position to lead the UK's fast growing premium digital media sector in the years ahead," said Martin Olausson, director of digital media research at Strategy Analytics.

Hmm, so despite people

Hmm, so despite people preferring Amazon to iTunes, Amazon is still "some way" (read: a long way) behind in actual sales. Does this mean that those preferring iTunes spend significantly more than the Amazon customers?
