Analysis: Perez Hilton #1 Traffic Source Is Facebook

Authored by Heather Hopkins on February 26, 2009 - 4:03am.

I noticed Ryan Spoon's blog post (via Techmeme) on PerezHilton.com's growth this morning. I have followed the Perez Hilton site (for purely professional reasons) for some time. The website ranked #398 among All Categories of websites last week and #5 among Entertainment - Personalities websites (based on share of US Internet visits).

Searches for "perez hilton" were more than 300 times higher than for the celebrity "paris hilton" last week, confirming what Ryan Spoon suggests in his post that Perez Hilton is a strong brand. But what is perhaps more interesting is that the site's #1 source of traffic is Facebook, not Google, as of last month. Last week, 8.70% of visits to PerezHilton.com came from Facebook compared to 7.62% from Google. The switch happened the week ending December 27th, 2008.

And this despite insults lobbed at Facebook on the Perez Hilton website and a call to boycott the social network.

By contrast, TMZ.com received 12.21% of its traffic from Google last week and only 3.82% from Facebook (with more traffic coming to the site from MySpace than from Facebook).

Perez Hilton.

I really don't like this man (Perez Hilton) at all. He thrives on people/celebrities hardships, or catches them at a bad moment. Even though I find alot of these movie stars at times annoying I still don't agree with his antagonistic approach, he's scathing in every possible way. He thrives on hurting people, Miss California is a good example. One of these days something like that will happen to him and he's going to be in the hotseat, but who knows, he's such a sick puppy, he'd probably enjoy it, I mean even his name isn't original. I am very open-minded, and I have friends that are gay, which is fine, to each they're own, however; people like him want to make heterosexuals feel like there's something wrong with them, Miss California should've just said that it was okay for anyone to marry as long as they loved each other, but she didn't. She was honest, and she said it was her belief, not pushing her ideas on anyone else, unlike Mr Perez, or Mario, or whatever the goon's name is. Don't give this creep anymore airtime, or react to his behavior, he's exposing Himself . Miss California was being honest, but we all know that now honesty is not the best policy, phony is in and hip, so please, enough is enough!
