Report: U.S. Could Reap $52 Billion From Web Gambling TaxesAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on February 26, 2009 - 9:38am.
Washington - The U.S.
could reap as much as $52 billion in revenue over the next ten years by lifting
its ban on Internet gambling, according to a report conducted by
PricewaterhouseCoopers for online payment services firm UC Group.
That figure is up 22% from 2007, which the firm attributed to the growth of online gambling in the U.S. -- despite the three-year-old legal ban being in place. Reuters noted that Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, plans to reintroduce a bill this year that would overturn the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
