Live Concert Webcaster Fabchannel to Shut DownAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on March 6, 2009 - 11:07am.
Amsterdam - Fabchannel.com, a
provider of live concert webcasts based in Amsterdam, announced this week that it will
shut down after nine years in operation, citing "bad economic prospects
within the music and online advertising market."
The ad-supported Fabchannel received a "substantial" investment in 2007, and last year secured a partnership with Universal Music Group, to stream concerts from Universal artists performing in Amsterdam. "The audience has not increased as planned, mostly due to the majority of major record labels giving no consent to record their artists," the company said in a statement. "At the same time, the online advertising and sponsoring market has been put under big pressure due to decreasing budgets of advertisers and sponsors." The company has amassed an archive of more than 1,000 concert webcasts, which will remain online for viewing until March 13.
