Los Angeles - Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) is no longer the holder of the "Lord of the Rings" game rights, as Warner Bros.' (NYSE: TWX) New Line has apparently not extended a contract with the publisher that was set to expire at the end of 2008, Variety reported. EA has held the license since 2001. Warner Bros. is also holds a stake in Turbine, developer of "Lord of the Rings Online," and may look to move development of console games based on the franchise in-house now as well.
