Gazillion Multiplayer Games to Feature Marvel SuperheroesAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on March 17, 2009 - 11:51am.
San Mateo, Calif.
- Gazillion Entertainment, a new multiplayer game publisher with venture
capital backing, announced on Tuesday that it has signed a multi-year agreement
with Marvel Enterprises (NYSE: MVL), to develop massively multiplayer online games based on
comic superheroes like Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America.
San Mateo, Calif.-based Gazillion, to this point doing business in stealth mode as NR2B Research, has assembled four development studios staffed with team members from Apple, Blizzard, Microsoft Game Studios and Pixar. The company's first game in development is "Super Hero Squad," a casual multiplayer title aimed at younger audiences; Gazillion is also working on "Marvel Universe," a multiplayer online game for PC and consoles. "Despite the tough economy, the video game industry continues to grow, and MMO games for mass audiences represent the next big opportunity for the upcoming decade," said Rob Hutter, president and CEO of Gazillion.
"This is particularly the case for established global entertainment brands like Marvel, which possess hundreds of millions of touch points with fans worldwide."
