AT&T to Sell Contract-Free iPhone for $599

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on March 20, 2009 - 9:47am.
New York - AT&T (NYSE: T) will begin selling Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone next week with a price tag of $599, for users who wish to purchase the device without a two-year service contract commitment.

The pricier iPhones will still be tied to AT&T's network, and the carrier will not offer prepaid service.

It's unclear whether Apple will sell contract-less iPhones from its retail stores and website.

The iPhone 3G currently costs $199 if a consumer signs up for a two-year commitment with AT&T.
