Richmond, Va. - Battered in recent months by the downturn in the newspaper industry, Media General has announced plans to reorganize its business beginning in July.

The company, currently divided into publishing, broadcast and interactive media divisions, plans to switch to a structure of five geographic markets that include all platforms.

"We will be better able to pursue new opportunities to serve customers beyond our traditional market boundaries, especially using digital media," said Marshall Morton, Media General's president and CEO.

James Zimmerman, currently president of the company's Broadcast division, will become president and market leader of the Virginia-Tennessee market.

Other markets will include Florida, Mid-South, North Carolina and Ohio-Rhode Island.

A sixth segment, Interactive Advertising Services, which will include the company's Blockdot, DealTaker.com and NetInformer businesses.

Media General publishes 24 daily newspapers, including The Tampa Tribune, Richmond Times-Dispatch and Winston-Salem Journal.
