Report: Disney in Talks to Put TV Clips, Episodes on YouTubeAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on March 30, 2009 - 11:46am.
Los Angeles
- Disney (NYSE: DIS) and Google (NASD: GOOG) are in advanced talks on a deal that would see clips of
ABC, ESPN and Disney programming on YouTube, while Disney is also considering a
full-episode deal, PaidContent reported.
Sources familiar with the situation told PaidContent that under the proposed deal, all video clips would link back to Disney-owned sites, and Disney would control the ads placed against its content, while YouTube would also be given inventory to sell. The talks on adding full TV episodes to YouTube "have gone as high as Disney CEO Bob Iger and Google chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt," according to PaidContent, but are not as far along as Disney's similar negotiations with Hulu, the video site joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE).
