Report: 3.4% of U.S. Households Not Ready for Digital TV SwitchAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on April 8, 2009 - 9:04am.
New York - Around 3.4% of U.S. television
households are still unprepared for the coming June 12 transition to digital
broadcasting, according to a report from Nielsen Media Research.
That equates to about 3.8 million U.S. households unprepared, after 610,000 bought the necessary converter boxes in March. TVWeek.com noted that the rate at which the remaining unprepared households are taking action is slowing. Breaking down the unprepared households by demographic, households populated by those under 35 are on average more unprepared (6.3%) than those over 55 (1.8%). Some 6.2% of African-American households are not digital TV-ready, compared with 5.6% of Hispanic, 4.4% of Asian, and 2.7% of white households.
